Eczema - What it Means and What You Can Do
If you or your child is plagued by eczema or skin conditions, you may find some helpful information in my other articles, here: https://simplybeingwell.com/simply-being-well/2016/12/14/candida-thrush-eczema-kefir?rq=eczema and here: https://simplybeingwell.com/simply-being-well/2017/03/21/edema-eczema-a-fib-the-one-pot-meal-that-heals
What to do? Where to start?
Remove all forms of sugar from the diet: fruit, nuts, seeds, grains, beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, processed foods (especially those that include any “food fractions” such as gums —carob bean gum, locust bean gum, xanthan gum, etc.) and starches — potato starch, tapioca starch, “modified food starch”, anything that says “starch”.
Add kefir to the diet. Kefir made with milk - raw milk is best (find raw milk near you at https://www.realmilk.com/). Homemade is best - it is very easy to make, and will be very potent. (Commercially made kefir that you purchase in the store cannot hold a candle to the potency of homemade…so make homemade!) You can learn how to make kefir HERE
Homemade kefir is very powerful, so start with a teaspoon or so, and gradually increase the amount over days and weeks. or months. A good target amount for adults is a quart or liter or more a day; for children from a cup to a few cups per day.
What if you cannot drink milk kefir due to a sensitivity to cow dairy? I suggest you try goat or sheep milk and make kefir from that. Ultimately, it will be a good idea to do the Dairy Introduction Protocol of the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) Diet , and drink lots of meat stock to heal and clear the problem. (You can work with me, or find a Certified GAPS Practitioner or Coach - CGP or CGC here: https://gaps.me/)
Removing sugar and adding kefir to the diet will do much to work from the inside — starving out the problematic microbes from the gut and repopulating it with beneficial microbes.
What can you do topically?
Assist the detoxification of the body with any or all of the following:
Detox baths - learn about the five detox baths here: https://youtu.be/EXg8ielMMMo?si=8doFpgQqFIqn39cd
Castor oil packs on the liver - look HERE
Enemas - the basic enema, or a coffee enema for adults. If you are new to Enemas and would like to learn more and go in confidently, you may wish to take my GAPS colleague, Monika Holland’s Enema Masterclass, here.
You can also try some things on patches of skin, to see if it helps, prior to covering the entire affected area. Wrap gently with cotton or cotton gauze to protect the skin and the sheets at night:
raw honey
seaweed (make a paste, and wrap as above). Check gapsdiet.com for a lovely seaweed made for the bath.
kefir
baking soda (make a solution and paint an area)
homemade tallow balm (made with beef, lamb, or bison tallow, a bit of EVOO and a drop or two of therapeutic grade lavender oil). Find tallow on my resource page, here: https://simplybeingwell.com/healthy-fats
Those are just a few ideas, that will help clear the eczema inside and out. However, if you would like to be rid of the cause of the eczema, I will always suggest ding the GAPS (Gut and Psychology) nutritional protocol. It is SO worth it! I would be happy to work with you. Schedule a time here.
